Not so long ago I put my mind to building something special to take out on the Flats to somewhere like either Exmouth Western Australia or Christmas Island to wade and catch myself a GT. I built a Barick Custom 12 Weight, 4pc, 9′, GT Fighter Fly Rod.
It took a bit of time but the end result I think speaks for itself. Built on a 9′, 4 piece, 12wt CTS Revo Salt blank in a very cool cobalt blue paint job. Starting from the bottom, a hand turned size 3 half EVA and half cork fighting butt. From ALPS, an FCAH, black alloy double lockup nut skeleton reel seat with Abalone shell underneath. A custom half EVA and half FLOR grade cork 11′ grip, with two casting grip positions and one fighting position. Dark blue nylon thread work with matching trim and Abalone shell inlay above the foregrip. An Mother of Pearl combined with feather-inlay Sword Fish on the Abalone shell inlay. ALPS Titanium MXN stripper guides and REC Nickel Titanium alloy snake guides. This one turned out to be a personal work of art.
